Griffon men hit key shots, outlast Central Oklahoma
Sometimes it's not about how many shots a team makes, but when it makes them. Missouri Western hit five clutch free throws in the final minute of an otherwise woeful night from the line to seal an 83-79 win against Central Oklahoma on Saturday at MWSU Fieldhouse. A wave of tension flowed over the home crowd as Griffon guard Martin Nolan missed the first of two free throws with 34 seconds left and Western clinging to a 78-77 lead. Nolan was just 1-for-5 on the night, and another miss would give the visiting Bronchos the chance to hold the ball for the winning shot. Nolan overcame the pressure and made the shot, only for the visitors to tie the game on a layup with 16 seconds left.

Over $300,000 was transferred from the Sewer Fund to the Aviation Fund over the last 5 years as compensation for dumping sewer sludge on airport farmland. Justification for these transfers have not been maintained and whether this is the most cost efficient means of disposing of sludge is unclear.
Jimmy John's to open ... soon
Jimmy John's will bring its gourmet sandwiches to The Belt sometime in the next week. Maybe. I just don't know for sure. I know what you're thinking. "Wow, the reporter is so lazy that he didn't even track down the date for the restaurant's opening."

And every self-respecting music blog around had praised the epic light show. But no review prepared me for 50-foot rope ladders, extra songs, or a suspiciously large pair of women's undergarments.
LeBlond girls close out Brookfield
CAMERON, Mo. - Early in the fourth quarter, Brookfield looked like it was about to drag Bishop LeBlond into a nailbiter. The Bulldogs slowly whittled away at a double-digit deficit and closed to within five points of the Golden Eagles with less than 5 minutes remaining in Wednesday's Class 3 District 16 semifinal at Cameron High School.
Maryville defense plays huge 2nd half
CAMERON, Mo. - The steady stream of 3-pointers that Plattsburg rained down on Maryville seemed like it would never end. But when the Tigers' long-range luck dried up, so did their chances of winning. Maryville's defense locked down Plattsburg in the second half as the Spoofhounds won 64-40 in the first round of the Class 3 District 16 tournament Tuesday at Cameron High School.
