Eats: Corbin Mill Restaurant is perfect for pie

Corbin Mill Restaurant

131 S. Water St., Liberty, Mo., (816) 781-3313

Next time you’re shopping in Liberty, Mo., take a break at the Corbin Mill Restaurant.

It’s inside Corbin Mill Place, a former flour mill built in 1889 which has been turned into a retail center housing several unique shops: With a French Accent, Bead Browsery, Bratcher Cooperage and Gifts, Old Mill Stitchery and American! Whatever, a primitive hooked rugs and wool supply store. The restaurant only serves lunch, but there’s a fairly wide selection to choose from, including freshly made quiches, salads, hearty sandwiches and a daily special. The special recently was brown-sugar-glazed pork with oven-baked vegetables, peas, lime Jello salad and banana muffins for $9.95. They also have a kids’ menu offering the usual grilled cheese, PB&J and turkey sandwiches with a side and soda. Or you might want to just get a slice of one of their homemade pies and a cup of coffee or apricot tea. A recent offering included coconut cream and chocolate creme pies with perfect fluffy meringue toppings, cherry pie, apple torte and carrot cake. If nothing else, the restaurant’s Americana decor, quilts, primitive art and abundance of sunflowers will rejuvenate you enough to go shopping some more. The Corbin Mill Restaurant is open from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday.
