Art show winners
The winners of the Midwest Artist Association's annual membership show held at East Hills Shopping Center recently have been announced. They are: Best of Show: Evelyn Jordan Isaacs, St. Joseph, pastel; second place: Jim Fly, St. Joseph, photography; third place: Steve Burns, St. Joseph, pastel; honorable mention and special award: Rachel Gibson, Leona, Kan., ceramic; and honorable mentions: Paul Johnson, Maryville, Mo., watercolor/collage and Jeanine Olsen, St. Joseph, oil.
Band of Brothers in Brownville
The Brownville Concert Series will host a performance by Winds of Freedom, part of the USAF Heartland of America Band from Offut Air Force Base at 2 p.m. Oct. 25 at the Brownville (Neb.) Concert Hall, 126 Atlantic St. The group regularly provides musical support for official military functions and community relations programs. Exit light, enter fright
Night Terrors, a haunted house in Atchison, Kan., opens at 7 p.m. tonight and will be open Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights through Oct. 31. The doors close when the crowds die off each night. Admission is $5. Night Terrors is located in the old Stein Labs building at the corner of Fourth Street and Kansas Avenue. Enter through the southwest parking lot doors across from Sears.
For the younger ghosts and goblins, Night Terrors will host a "Not-So-Terrifying" haunted house for children ages 12 and under from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. Oct. 31. Children can trick-or-treat their way through the haunted maze with lights on and no scary characters jumping out at them. Admission is $2. It's the most wonderful time of the year
The St. Joseph Museums will host a holiday trip to the Kansas City area that will include a tour of the National Frontier Trails Museum, dinner at the Bingham-Waggoner Estate, and a driving tour of the holiday lights of the Country Club Plaza and surrounding areas. The trip will take place on Dec. 15. The motor coach will depart from the St. Joseph Museum, 3406 Frederick Ave., at 11:30 a.m. and return at 8:30 p.m. The cost of the trip is $75 for museum members and $90 for non-members, which includes luxury motor coach transportation, homes tour admission, snack, dinner, tip and the driving tour of the holiday lights.
