We recommend for Oct. 16, 2009

Each week, members of the Lifestyles staff share something we like. Maybe you'll like it, too.

Sylvia Anderson, food/home and garden reporter: When it comes to over-the-counter pain relief, if you have horrible cramps or muscle pain, take Aleve. If you have a fever or headache, take Motrin. And if you don't want relief from anything, take Tylenol.

Tamara Clymer, Lifestyles reporter: I'm a big blog fan. I don't know what it is about reading about other people's lives that I find so interesting, but let's just say I'm addicted and leave it at that. I have, however, found a way to manage my addiction through Google Reader. This Internet-based program brings in feeds from my favorite blogs into my reader, so anytime my favorite bloggers update their sites, I have the newest copy immediately. No more going from site to site to see if there's something new to read. It's all right there at the click of a mouse, which means I have more time to find more blogs to read.

Shea Conner, entertainment reporter: If you have yet to check out "Late Night With Jimmy Fallon," then you are missing out on the most innovative and downright silly show on late night TV. Fallon is still improving his interview skills, but his skits and on-air gags are legendary. Here are a few for example: Fallon played beer pong with former Golden Girl Betty White, broke tons of furniture with MMA icon Kimbo Slice and had studio contestants sing karaoke to the ramblings of former NFL broadcaster John Madden. Oh, and he's trying to organize a "Saved By The Bell" reunion. That's must-see TV and you know it!

Jess DeHaven, Lifestyles editor: I know TV isn't the greatest thing for kids, so I try to keep what I allow my young daughter to watch to things with an educational message. We all know about "Sesame Street," but we've stumbled across a program I never would have thought she'd enjoy: "Yo Gabba Gabba!" To an adult, this show is just plain weird, but preschoolers seem to love it. There's lots of singing and dancing, along with messages very relavent to that age group - don't bite your friends, don't eat food that's been on the ground, eat your fruits and veggies. Throw in guest stars like Jack Black, and parents will find themselves sitting down to watch as well. You can find it on Nick Jr. and DVD.

Blake Hannon, entertainment reporter: Do you know what pure unfiltered joy sounds like? Yeah, me neither. But I'll tell you this. I think the music of Passion Pit probably comes close to that audible sensation. They masterfully create New Wave-inspired synth pop on their first full-length album "Manners" with infectious dance grooves, smart melodies, the occasional kids choir and singer/keyboardist/mastermind Michael Angelakos stratospherically high vocals. If you're in a funk, put this on and prepare to be in a good mood.

Erin Wisdom, health/religion reporter: I've been harassed from time to time since moving to Missouri for being a KU graduate. But despite that, I'm going to take my chances and recommend Allen Fieldhouse as the best place in the country to experience college basketball (Granted, I haven't been to a game on any other campus. But even ESPN, in an article published last March, called it a "storied basketball cathedral, where the heart of college basketball beats alongside the court named for the man who invented the game"). With the price of KU basketball tickets skyrocketing in recent years, I haven't exactly been in the market for them - but I will make the trek to Lawrence today for Late Night, which historically has been the first basketball practice of the season. It's free and fun, even if (as I probably will) you end up sitting in the rafters.
