Eats: Head on out to Aberdeen

Aberdeen Steak House

108 W. Vermont, King City, Mo., (660) 535-6585

Since I was raised in the Midwest, I'm always on the lookout for a great steak house. Some of my friends have been telling me about this little place in King City, so I went up there to check it out.

What a neat little steak house in a small town - my kind of restaurant. I stopped by for lunch and decided to try the chicken fried steak with a side of grilled shrimp with pineapple salsa. They start off with a wonderful spinach salad made with a homemade dressing, fresh mushrooms, bacon and chopped egg. The chicken fried steak also was homemade, and you can tell. Not too greasy, not too tough, and the breading is very light, giving it a great flavor and taste. The grilled shrimp had a good garlic flavor, but when you add the pineapple salsa, it gives it a great kick with the sweetness of the pineapple. I would stop by just to have drinks and the shrimp, but I will return to try out the prime rib, which I was told is the best around. If you want to make a small road trip, Aberdeen's is well worth the ride.
