This is: Trip Hazard

If you've seen the Kansas City group Trip Hazard perform before and plan to see them in St. Joe this weekend, your ears may be in for a bit of a surprise. Formerly, the outlaw country outfit specialized in covering tunes by guys with names like Merle (Haggard), Waylon (Jennings) and Hank (Williams Jr.). The newest incarnation of Trip Hazard - with lead singer/guitarist Mike Wasden, lead guitarist Johnny Sinnett, bassist Steve Bush, steel guitarist Raymond Ray and drummer Randy Trainer - has reset its focus on nailing Keith Urban guitar solos and Rascal Flatts harmonies while playing the "red dirt Texas stuff" of artists like Cross Canadian Ragweed and Jason Boland. "They've still got that traditional country sound, but it still brings that rock 'n' roll influence into what they do," Trainer says. While the group's covers may be different, the members still go outlaw upon request. "If you're a country band and you don't play a Merle Haggard song, there's something wrong with you," Trainer says. Trip Hazard will perform at 9 p.m. May 16 at Buffalo Bar. Cover is $5.
