Retro in a can
Pepsi Throwback brings back the soda of the '70s

If you’re like me, you’ve been what the commercials for Pepsi Throwback have been talking about. How can pop be retro?

Well, for those not alive and drinking soda in the '70s, the answer is this: Pop used to be made with real cane sugar. Then high fructose corn syrup came in and kicked real sugar to the curb.

But now, thanks to Pepsi Throwback, as well as Mountain Dew Throwback, you can experience the real (sugary) thing — though only for a limited time. If you’re wondering, using real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup gives the pop a sweeter taste. As far as health benefits of one versus the other... well, sugar is healthier, but the added amount of dyes (like Yellow #5 in Mountain Dew) in the Throwback drinks pretty much negates that.
