This is: Copperview

The first time the St. Louis hard rock quintet Copperview played in St. Joe at Hammerjacks Rock-N-Roll Sports Bar two months ago, it had to compete for an audience. But it wasn't with another band. It was with a UFC pay-per-view fight. "We're like, 'How are we going to pull these people in,'" says drummer Jeremy Patterson. "What was cool was the response we got was, 'We thought you guys were going to be background music. We had no idea you guys were going to be that good.'" All friends from separate bands, Copperview's members - Patterson, Sam Baker (vocals), Toby Picker (lead guitar), Pat Gibson (rhythm guitar) and Dave Kopp (bass) - came together almost too easily after each of the groups they were involved with disbanded. The band's self-described "party rock" embodies a hard-rock edge, melodically trippy leads similar to A Perfect Circle, Baker's 3 Doors Down-esque vocals and an unruly energy, attitude and stage show that could easily have come courtesy of the Sunset Strip. But don't let that fool you. "I think it's just a character you take on when you're on stage," Patterson says. "A lot of people are surprised we're so nice." Copperview will return to St. Joseph to perform on the band's two-year anniversary at 9 p.m. tonight at Hammerjacks.
