This is: Unwound

When you refer to St. Joseph blues/classic rock outfit Unwound, a few things stick out. They have a rhythm guitarist who was formerly a classical violinist in Mike Manley. And he's not the only Manley in the group. Mike's brother, David, plays rhythm and acoustic guitar, and his wife, Michelle, came on board to give lead guitarist and vocalist Mike Cassidy some relief from singing duties - as a first-timer. "I have never done anything like that, never," Michelle says. "I don't think I'm a hundred percent yet, either." Regardless, with new bassist Jeremy Lawing and drummer Ricky Sims, the group has tightened up its show, which focuses on blues by Eric Clapton and Stevie Ray Vaughn but also throws in a bit of Eagles, Lynyrd Skynyrd and Georgia Satellites. Even though the band has done only a few gigs in our area in the last two years, Michelle says you can hear the progress. "When we did our first shows, I think we sounded good. A year later, stuff we weren't able to do we are having no problem with at all," she says. "It's come a long way." Unwound will perform at 9 p.m. July 25 at Magoon's.
