When Romanian-born artist Armin Mühsam returned to his family's home in Munich, Germany after studying art at Montana State University, he noticed much of the lush green landscapes he remembered had been intruded by modernization. It wasn't what he wanted to see. "It really made me angry and it didn't get out of my head. I wanted to react somehow," Mühsam says. His reaction came through his art. The award-winning artist is now an associate professor of art at Northwest Missouri State University. Mühsam's work utilizes his "personal language," angular and architectural formations making intrusions and incisions on otherwise scenic landscapes. "I'm interested in how we, as a society, treat and interact with our environment," he says. Mühsam's "Works On Paper" exhibit is on display at the Potter Hall Fine Arts Gallery at Missouri Western State University through Feb. 6.
