In St. Joe, country singer/songwriter Casey Brett has been able to do some pretty cool things since he started the '00s as one of the Muny Inn's go-to entertainers. He played last summer's big Country Stampede music festival. He's opened for country soul crooner James Otto at the Buffalo Bar. It's safe to say he's made a pretty good name for himself in Joetown. But he learned a thing or two, whether he wanted to or not, after he went down to play honky-tonks in Nashville for almost two years between 2007 and the beginning of 2009. "I'm a dime a dozen," Brett says. "There's people all over down there that do it and they're very good at it, and I think it's an experience that every musician should go through." But Brett keeps on truckin' with eyes on bigger things, recording an album down in Texas of covers mixed with originals he describes as red dirt country with an irresistible good-time vibe. "When I write a song, that's what I strive for - what's going to get these people out of these chairs," Brett says. "Hopefully, it catches on and we stay working." Casey Brett performs at 9 p.m. every Wednesday night at the Rear View Sports Bar and Grill.
