Hamburgers at The Tap Room Bar and Grill
1702 N. Belt Highway, 749-4222
"There are a lot of varieties to choose from on the menu, but I chose a hamburger. It was on a toasted kaiser bun and very moist and juicy. They have lots of choices, but my favorite was a teriyaki sauce with grilled pineapple and Swiss cheese. And to compliment my hamburger, there were the sweet potato "coins" with the special dipping sauce. The iced tea was fresh, and the service was excellent."
- Diana Hagan, St Joseph
The Tap Room Bar and Grill is one of St. Joe's newest sports bars. It's located on the Belt Highway in what used to be Manchester's Pub and Restaurant. The four owners have pretty much kept the same upscale look that the restaurant had and just removed some seating on one end to add a shuffle board table.
They also opened up a back room for private parties, which costs nothing to reserve. The cozy fireplace by the bar is still there, and so is the spacious outdoor deck. When it opens for the season, they hope to be able to put some TVs outside - just in case you can't get enough sports watching their nine TVs inside.
The bar and grill definitely has a full bar with about every possible beer and drink imaginable. They have happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and half-price drinks and wings on Wednesdays. And if you're looking for variety in your hamburgers, this is the place. Chef Brandon Guardado has created some amazing burgers with international flavors, such as his Greek burger, made with tzatziki sauce, feta cheese, pepper cheese and kalmata olives, served with sweet potato wedges. If you're looking for entertainment with that burger, they have live bands on the weekend playing everything from jazz to rock 'n' roll. And if you need a stretch limo to take you home, they can arrange that, too. (The owners of the Tap Room also have a limo service). The Tap Room is open at 11 a.m. every day. The kitchen closes at 9 p.m. during the week and at 10 p.m. on weekends.
