Department of Transportation seeks artists

The Missouri Department of Transportation is seeking artists or artist teams to create murals for one of two Welcome Centers.

Located in the lobby/entrance, the artwork should inspire visitors to explore the local/regional cultural, historic, and/or scenic points of interests.

The project budget is $30,000 per location and includes all costs associated with the project including, but not limited to, artist’s design fee, travel, materials, fabrication costs, documentation, transportation and installation.

The project is open to all professional artists and artist teams residing in the U.S. that have at least five years of public art experience or can demonstrate ability to successfully complete a project of this type and scale. Preference will be given to artists residing in Missouri.

Submissions must be received by 4 p.m. May 15.

Museums offer combined tickets for May 10

From 1 to 4 p.m. May 10, the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion and the Doll Museum will offer a combined ticket for a reduced fee. Each museum will offer extra activities for children.

Traditional Japanese crafts of carp kites and origami will be offered for school-age children at the Wyeth-Tootle Mansion at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Spaces in these workshops are limited, so reservations are required.

No reservations are needed for the Doll Museum or Wyeth-Tootle Mansion Museum exhibits of the Miss Hyogo and the Miss Miyagi (dolls brought to Missouri and Kansas in 1927 from Japan as a gesture of world friendship) and dolls from the museum collection, local collectors and several St. Joseph schools.

Combined tickets to both museums will cost $5 for adults and $2 for children. Lemonade and cookies will be available at the mansion throughout the afternoon.

For more information, or to reserve a spot for the child’s craft session, please call the St. Joseph Museums, Inc., at 232-8471.
