Organ virtuoso Diane Bish to play recital
Diane Bish, who hosts the international television series “The Joy of Music,” will play an organ recital on at 3 p.m. May 4, at Francis Street First United Methodist Church, 12th and Francis streets.
The concert is sponsored by the St. Joseph Chapter of the American Guild of Organists. Tickets are $10 at the door and $8 for seniors older than 60 and students with ID, and they also may be purchased in advance at the Allied Arts Council Office, 118 S. Eighth. The Allied Arts Council and the Missouri Arts have provided financial assistance for the concert.
Through her career as a television personality, composer, concert and recording artist, Bish is one of the most visible and influential classical organists performing today. Bish is a native of Wichita, Kan., where she attended Wichita State University. She received Fulbright and French government grants for study in Amsterdam and Paris.

Mayfest begins this weekend
Our Lady of Guadalupe Church will host Mayfest from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 3. It is free and open to the public.
The festival features a country store, an “Attic Treasures” booth, a raffle for cash prizes, a cake walk, children’s games from noon to 3 p.m., concessions and a silent auction. A pork loin dinner will be served from 5 to 7 p.m. The cost for the dinner is $7 for adults, $4 for ages 5 to 12 and children under 5 eat for free.
Entertainment will be provided throughout the dinner, and bingo will follow from 7 to 8 p.m.

American Heartland presents ‘Perfect Wedding’
The American Heartland Theatre in Kansas City will present its production of “Perfect Wedding” from May 2 to June 15.
The comic play, written by Robin Hawdon, focuses on a groom who wakes up in a honeymoon suite with a woman other than his bride-to-be and the scrambling he executes to cover it up.
