I guess this would qualify as one of the holiest weeks of the year, with the whole Good Friday/Easter holiday and all.
And just think, we just got through a St. Patty’s Day weekend where the one thing that was sacrilegious was not being Irish, and even then, if you had a beer in your hand and were rocking some shade of green, you got away with it.
This weekend, there are a few places you could go to assure that when you walk into your church for Easter, you have a tune stuck in your head or ears that ring like the tone of the emergency broadcast system.
First, newly relocated Buffalo Bar will be hosting ‘American Idol’ finalist and country music singer Bucky Covington tonight (check out page D2 for more). If you’re looking for something more laid back and off the cuff, check out singer/songwriter and former Crash of ‘29 frontman Wade Williamson at Cafe Acoustic March 22. Cathy Woolridge has got all the details on page D16.
Then again, you could always go down the The Rendezvous and see pop punkers Broken Avenue share the stage with girl-fronted alternative rock group Alice tonight at 10 p.m. for $3.
What else is there? Well, you can get hypnotized by the “erotic hypnotic” Anthony Potmesil at 8 p.m. tonight at the American Legion and be forced to do things your mother would be ashamed of. The cost is $10 in advance and $15 at the door.
And even though it is not until Monday, I would check out the pretty, folky pop of the Cowboy Junkies when they perform at 8 p.m. March 24 at The Granada in Lawrence, Kan. Tickets are $23 and $25.
Finally, I’ll give you reasons to get online to check out some cool content and even help change the look of Off Hours.
First, check out the blogs on www.st joenews.net and marvel at the wonder known as Alonzo Weston’s hat. After your done with that, go to www.stjoelive.com/stjoelivesurvey/, fill out our online survey and let us know what you think of Off Hours.
Then come help me figure out how the Easter Bunny lays all those eggs. Sounds like genetic splicing to me.
