Hamilton freshman Lindsay Vollmer arrived on the track and field scene with quite a splash. Actually, her impact more closely resembled a tidal wave.
The first-year phenom, the News-Press girls track and field athlete of the year, finished the Class 2 Track and Field Championships with three gold medals, two state records and one of the best individual performances in small-class history.
Her efforts also helped the Hornets run away with the team title by more than 30 points, and a runner-up performance to Crystal City’s Precious Selmon in the 100 hurdles was the only thing between her and a 40-point effort.
Thanks in part to Vollmer’s all-state contributions in both cross country and basketball, Hamilton concluded the 2007-08 school year with three team titles — a number that should only continue to grow with her contributions.
