Please buckle your children,
I understand some people do not like to wear seat belts, but you have to consider your children above your self. I was going North on the Belt today, and happened to notice how many seat infractions I could of had if I were a police officer. More concerning to me was the number of children jumping around in the cars. As a former Fire Fighter who has searched high in trees for an ejected child, I beg you to do the right thing, for your child's sake.
Thanks, Mike

Does St. Joe have any bars that are 18 to enter and 21 to drink? As far as I know we don't, Kansas City does. With gas as high as it is who wants to drive to KC? How about a little fun for those of us who are stuck in limbo from 18 to 20.

Obama Exemplifies Family Values
Senator Obama exemplifies family values. He honors his parents and his grandparents. He honors the stories of his extended family in Kenya. He has been married to one beautiful wife for sixteen years and he has two beautiful daughters. He honors his wife, works at his marriage, and supports his children. He respects women and works to uphold their rights. He's worked in communities to better the lives of children, teenagers, and families. He has his own Christian faith, but does not impose that faith on others. He values his own family and honors the families of others. His economic proposals are designed to help and lift up working families. He is working for a better health care system with an emphasis on prevention that is affordable and accessible to all--for families. He understands that families need clean air, clean water, healthy food, and adequate shelter. He leads his family and his country by example, with honesty and compassion.

Missouri Western has a few issues that I feel need to be addressed. The whole "Vote or Shut Up" that they are promoting has turned into "Obamafest", where Obama supporters outnumber McCain supporters at least 8:1. Obama stickers are illegally placed all over campus (windows, dorm doors without consent, sidewalks, parking lots, buildings, walls, support beams, etc), College Democrats have been registering voters with Obama clothing and stickers (which is illegal), and even some professors have begun to promote their beliefs in class. However, whenever some Republicans attempt to gather (or write our own privately funded newspaper), it has either been voted "nay" or vetoed. I, for one, always thought that a college was supposed to be a place to share ideas and promote the individual's beliefs. If this is allowed to continue, I believe that Missouri Western will be doomed to failure.

Why does Vince Capell with the city think he can call for an audit of county? This guy has quite an ego. He is the City Manager and not our elected official. Why is HE speaking for the City Council on this?

Mizzou,
If you're going to complain about Vince Capell, at least make sure you get the facts right.
The call for an audit was in reference to the LEC (law enforcement center) which is joint operation between Buchanan County and the City of St. Joseph. It is perfectly within the purvue of the City Manager to call for an audit of this venture. He is not calling for an audit of the county, merely the LEC.
Mr. Capell was hired to manage the city business as a business. That's why decades ago the citizens voted to change the charter from a council mayor form of government to a city manager form of government. Before, city business was laced with nepotism, cronyism and political favoritism. That wasn't good then, and I don't want us to revert back to that now.
He's doing his job. Ego's aside he's been an excellent manager.
So, I would suggest before you cast questionable comments, you do a little resarch and get your facts straight.

I think I have figured out why the cop repsonse time is so ridiculous in this town. I was at the mall this afternoon and there were four cops there all standing around and chit chatting. It was obvious they were having a good ole time visiting. One of the cops even went into Taco Johns to shoot the breeze with a Mall employee. Is this where my tax dollars are going? I was tempted to ask them what kind of horrible crime could've taken place to require four uniformed police officers to be at the mall on Saturday afternoon. Even if a shoplifter had committed a crime I find it hard to believe it would take four officers to take him or her downtown. I have called the police several times for theft, vandalism, and other crimes in my neighborhood and each call goes unanswered for hours and hours and seeing this today made me furious. Is this why it takes so long to respond? Because they are too busy chit chatting and cruising the mall? RIDICULOUS!!!!

for your information they are working off duty for the mall as their second job. they drive their personal cars there. But here is one for you. They do put an officer at Noyes pool every summer all day. I think that is a waste of manpower when he could be on the street answering calls.
That started when Mike Hirter was Chief. They have 9 districts to fill and they used to work 3 officers short alot of the time, but that officer would be at the pool everyday. Shows you what Mike Hirter thought of public safety and the safety of his officers. Way to go Mike Hirter.

I have seen several comments throughout the election about how children should not be involved in politics. I don't agree. Children are affected by laws that we make and should have the right to express their feelings about them. Further, children have been involved in and affected by social situations throughout history , some of which have lead to important cases such as: Mendez v. Westminister,Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka, KS., and Engel v. Vitale. Ruby Bridges and the Little Rock Nine are a few children that have helped to change our history. The fact that they are children does not make their opinions or feelings less valuable. The opportunity of our children to participate in the political process creates an awareness of personal and communal responsibility investing in the betterment of our society.
