David Norvell, 47, regularly devotes his time to two passions: faith and art. As a Jehovah’s Witness minister, he moved to St. Joseph two months ago from New York City to work with the Spanish community. He has also been an artist for two decades, working primarily in oils, a medium that, like Norvell, is very forgiving. “If you blow it, you can go back and fix it, so there’s no excuse for not getting it right,” he says. Norvell says he likes to paint the human face and look for something captivating in every subject. “People are fascinating. They’re deep. Every face has it’s own beauty,” Norvell says. “I like to be able to find it and pull it out.” Norvell currently has three pieces on display at Gallery 7 at 118 N. Seventh St.
