Rejoice! Will Ferrell is funny again!

Let's face it, Will Ferrell is a comic genius. I know this because I have seen "Old School." I have seen "Anchorman." I have seen "Talladega Nights." But what has the binge drinking, jazz-flute playing, race car driving son of a gun done for comedy-lovers lately?

Since "Talladega Nights," Ferrell has done four movies: "Stranger Than Fiction," "Blades of Glory," "Semi-Pro" and "Step Brothers."

"Stranger Than Fiction" was painfully unfunny. It was almost as if someone combined "The Truman Show" (a good movie) with an informative video about the Dewey Decimal System (the most boring thing I could think of watching). And worst of all, Will Ferrell didn't even attempt to be funny. Yes, a man who rested his career on running in the nude did a serious movie. That's the first disappointment.

"Blades of Glory" had its moments, but was not up to par with Ferrell's other comedic gems. The chemistry between Ferrell and Jon Heder just wasn't there, and it lacked any clever comedy. That's the second disappointment.

That brings us to "Semi-Pro." It was very forgettable. It wasn't a bad movie, but again, there wasn't much comedy. It seemed as if Ferrell was the only one trying to be funny in the movie, but he couldn't make this movie a success by himself. In fact, Woody Harrelson kind of stole the show in a more serious role. All in all, "Semi-Pro" was only semi-funny. That's the third disappointment.

After three stinkers in a row, many felt that Will Ferrell had lost his touch. But maybe those people shouldn't have judged so soon.

"Step Brothers" has brought Will Ferrell back into the comedy spotlight. Apatow Films teamed him with John C. Reilly once again and scored. This film shows that Will Ferrell can still be successful if he works with writer Adam McKay and producer Judd Apatow.

With that being said, it was recently rumored that Will Ferrell would finally do a sequel to "Anchorman." I was cautious to accept this because I have been hearing about "Old School 2" for about seven years now. Then McKay and Ferrell both confirmed that the sequel would be made.

But wait, would Steve Carell and Paul Rudd reprise their roles as Brick Tamland and Brian Fantana? What about David Koechner as Champ Kind?

Carell told MTV Movies that he would do it "in a second." Rudd said he "would be in it for sure." And Koechner, well, no one has asked him yet.

"Anchorman 2" confirmed!

Another big movie featuring Ferrell was also announced recently. However, he will not be the star. Sony/Columbia Pictures announced that Sacha Baron Cohen and Ferrell will reunite for a comedic take on "Sherlock Holmes," in which Cohen will play the famous detective and Ferrell would play his sidekick Watson. Etan Cohen will write the script for Judd Apatow and Jimmy Miller.

Ferrell + Sacha Baron Cohen x Judd Apatow = funny movie

So for all the naysayers, don't worry. Will Ferrell hasn't lost his touch. Every comedic actor has his peaks and valleys and Ferrell is no different. Everyone seems to forget that in between "Anchorman" and "Talladega Nights," two of his funniest films, he did "Kicking & Screaming" and "Bewitched."

Will Ferrell was in a valley, but he's climbing toward the peak again.
