If you love watching sports, Carson’s is your kind of place. With 23 TVs, including one enormous 8-foot-by-10-foot screen on the wall, you won’t miss any action.

But Carson’s also is a fun place to eat. The shiny, corrugated steel walls display everyone’s favorite sports memorabilia, including that of the local Northwest Missouri State Bearcats. Over the pool tables hang large NASCAR race cars, which are actually lamps. And where else can you get peanut butter on your burger? It’s actually what they call a PB Triple Play: peanut butter, bacon and Monterrey Jack cheese. Carson Riedel, who owns and runs the place with his wife and in-laws, says the concept came from a restaurant he worked for in Colorado. As the cheese melts, the peanut butter gets soft and gooey.

“Sounds bizarre, but trust me,” he says. “Try it and you’ll fall in love.”

You’ll also wear it, because it can get a little messy as you eat it, but that’s like a lot of things on the menu — just part of the fun. Carson’s also has the usual bar/grill food, such as wings, fries and ”sammiches.” And there is a full bar with 10 beers on tap, plus some speciality beers, such as Rogue Dead Guy Ale, and Carson’s favorite, 90 Shilling Beer, from the Odell Brewing Company.

They don’t get “too frilly” on mixed drinks, but can make about anything you have a name for, Carson says. The daring might want to try what they call a Breckenridge Special, which is six liquors and a fruit juice.

Carson’s is open from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. every day. It’s suggested you call ahead if you have a group of 12 or more, unless you don’t mind waiting for a seat.
