This is: James Phalen
For the past seven years in St. Joe, blues guitarist and singer/songwriter James Phalen has tried to get a message out. His Clapton-inspired licks helped him win second place in last year’s KC Blues Society’s International Competition. With plans to compete again this year, he will bring more original material, which Phalen describes as Dylan-esque in its topics, along with issues both global and local. “I like protest material. I like songs that are honest. I like to be frank,” Phalen says. “There’s plenty to write about.” James Phalen will perform at 9 p.m. Aug. 30 at Foster’s.
