Robidoux Resident Theatre will hold auditions for the musical “Grease” from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Sept. 1 and 2. The auditions will be held at 116 S. Eighth St. The Robidoux Resident Theatre encourages all actors to attend the auditions. No prep work is needed, but people who audition should be prepared to dance. Concert series schedule announced
Jason Riley will be the first performer for the 10th season of the First Thursday Downtown Noon Concert Series at 12:10 p.m. Sept. 4. First Presbyterian Church sponsors the series in cooperation with the Missouri Western State University Department of Music. The audience is invited to bring lunch to eat while listening to the performances in the sanctuary of First Presbyterian Church until about 12:45 p.m. Beverages will be provided. There is an opportunity to meet the musicians after each concert. In order to help defray expenses and to ensure the continuation of the series, a free-will offering will be taken. The suggested minimum donation is $3.
Upcoming concerts in the 2008-2009 series will feature: Jeremy Gregoire, a jazz pianist, on Oct. 2; the Missouri Western Concert Chorale on Nov. 6; “Sounds of the Season” featuring Jerry L. Anderson on organ and piano on Dec. 4; pianist Vicki Bragin on Feb. 5; Missouri Western Symphonic Winds on March 5; and “Sounds of the Season” featuring the First Presbyterian Church Sanctuary and Bell Choirs on April 2. Bringing the East Coast swing to the Midwest
Register now for beginning, intermediate or advanced ballroom dance lessons. Vince and Mary Beth Valencia will teach East Coast swing, foxtrot, waltz and cha-cha, as well as other ballroom and Latin dances. Photographers of Kansas unite
Four Kansas-based photographers will be showing their work from Aug. 20 through Oct. 18 at the Muchnic Gallery, 704 N. Fourth St. in Atchison, Kan. Ferry Keizer, Bruce L. Snell, Michael C. Snell and Doug Stremel share a passion for photography. Their backgrounds and specialties differ, ranging from travel and landscape to portrait and wedding photography. The show will consist of images made during photo outings as well as photos made by each of the photographers individually. The Muchnic Gallery is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Wednesdays and 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays or any other time by appointment.
