To show how hip and cool they are, Microsoft hires... Jerry Seinfeld
You have to wonder about the advertising genuises at Microsoft. According to the Wall Street Journal, Microsoft doesn't like the uncool, stody reputation it's gotten in the Apple campaigns featuring the Mac and PC characters. They want to make sure everyone knows how trendy Microsoft still is.
So who does Microsoft hire to be their cool, hip, edgy new spokesperson? David Beckham? No. Michael Phelps? No. The cast of 'Gossip Girl'? Guess again.
No, they chose... Jerry Seinfeld. Microsoft doesn't like the old fogey reputation it's getting, so they hire a middle-age comedian who hasn't been a superstar since the '90s. That just doesn't seem like the right direction to go in. Or, if they were going to go for someone older, they should have gone for someone who could at least be tongue in cheek about it, someone who makes being older cool, like Samuel L. Jackson, who could make Spam seem cool. Or at least an older person that's hot, like Richard Gere.
Seinfeld will appear in the new Microsoft ads with Bill Gates. I have a feeling these ads won't do much to help Microsoft's reputation.
