Pappy's Grill and Pub
Pappy's Grill and Pub is much like the neighborhood it's located in - nothing fancy, but clean and comfortable with a family atmosphere. The morning I visited, owner Steve Margulies was making his rounds with Vince, his visiting 7-year-old grandson. Work days are a little less stressful now that Steve is down to running one restaurant. He was working an average of 110 hours a week running Pappy's at First Ward and Pappy's Grill and Pub.

El Rey Del Taco
My first impression after walking into El Ray Del Taco was that I somehow crossed the border into Mexico. Even though the restaurant is located in the middle of St. Joseph (the former Pizza Hut at 1711 Mitchell Ave.), the Spanish spoken on the satellite TV show and in the kitchen reminded me of my trips to Mexico when I lived in San Diego. Surprisingly, the owner, Sukie Vanover, is a native Korean.
